Git AI is joining OpenAI.

When Sasha and I started working on AI-code attribution last summer, we had no idea we were taking front-row seats to the largest transformation in how software gets built. Today, Git AI runs on hundreds of thousands of developer machines at scale-ups and across the F500. Our data helps engineering leaders measure the ROI of coding agents, compare the performance and token efficiency of different models, and improve productivity across the agentic SDLC.

At OpenAI, our mission continues. Git AI became a trusted tool for AI attribution because of its openness, transparent measurement data, and cross-agent support. OpenAI shares our belief that users should have the data to compare model performance and understand the ROI of every token they spend. Together, we’ll keep investing in open source, while also giving enterprises the data they need to build effective software factories.

On the journey we’ve been fortunate to work with Cursor, Cognition, Google, Factory, OpenAI, and GitHub on agent hooks, telemetry schemas, AI-code attribution standards, and new ways to measure ROI. We’ll keep building standards in the open and are excited to collaborate and give back to the wider ecosystem.
